The late 1980’s and a trip to Sunnyside dog pound and ‘’Fluffy Black Puppy - found in Bilston”

Thus Bobby came into my life.  He was approximately 3 to 4 months of age and some sort of Collie X mix full of mischief and energy as only a collie puppy can be.

My Dog Training interest had begun, by 1991 I was on my first Instructors Course.  Where I met Doug - we have been friends ever since.Everything I have learnt about dogs, training and behaviour has spiked my curiosity and desire to know more.  Resulting in an HNC in Canine Behaviour and Training plus a City and Guilds in Further and Adult Education.  I am a Kennel Club Registered assessor for the Good Citizen Dog Scheme, A KC Judge for Rally obedience and mentor for Rally Obedience Judges.  I have trained as a dog Groomer and attended various courses and seminars including a 3 week training course in India.

Sadly, Bobby died many years ago, when the time was right Max a 10 month old German Shepherd Rescue came into my life.  With him we had a go at Agility. It really is a magnificent sight, seeing such a large breed dog traversing the Dog Walk and A frame. However At 13 years of age Max was struggling with his hips and no longer enjoying life. It was time to say goodbye.

Radley my Cockerpoo is now 4 and a bundle of fun.  This summer we attended a 4 day Rally Working Trials workshop where she achieved a Bronze award, not bad for a 1st attempt at a new sport.

What will be our next Challenge?

Who are we?

I  have owned dogs for nearly 22 years and for the last 9 years I have had Irish water spaniels and currently own 6 of them ( 4 live with me). I am an Assured Kennel Club breeder and understand the importance of early and continued socialization to ensure puppies grow up to well adjusted adults. I also show my dogs on a regular basis and they have all won classes at Crufts over the years.  I am particularly interested in dog behavior and love observing how my own dogs interact and communicate with each other.  I am also keen to utilize dogs’ natural working abilities and this includes all kinds of scentwork, agility and search work. We often hold scentwork evenings at the club and most members are surprised how well their dogs can do and how much fun it is! I have been instructing at Church Eaton for 6 years and I am a kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme Assessor and a KCAI member. I am also in the process to be accepted on the “C” judging list which will enable me to judge at Kennel Club open shows for all breeds of dogs.

Throughout my childhood I was raised with dogs all around me. Dogs have always had a very special place in my heart - enjoying their company, love, loyalty and compassion. I started obedience training 5 years ago. It was during this time that I discovered the added joy that actually working with my dogs could bring, in turn creating a stronger bond and greater understanding.

For many years I had thought about being a trainer - The thought that I could help people to learn, understand and enjoy their dogs in the way I do my own. Then, on one of my training sessions I mentioned this to my class instructor. Now I've been a trainer for 2 years, after extensive coaching by my fellow experienced trainers, taking classes at Church Eaton & District DTS. I have also worked my dog CJ to gain our Kennel Club Good Citizens Dog Scheme Gold Award
