A Little Background Information

Church Eaton & District Dog Training Society was founded on April 20th 1988, when Doug decided that he wanted to help Handlers and Dogs in the west of Stafford Borough. The format of the Society is based upon the model used by his first Dog Training Club, Hertford & District Dog Training Society. He was determined that the club should remain relatively small so that there would be an "intimate" atmosphere and that there would be good co-operation between the different Instructors, this in turn would encourage consistency, which in his opinion is the lynch pin when building up a relationship with the handlers and also in turn for each individual when training their own dog.

We do promote "RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERSHIP" very heavily.

Currently we run three classes on a Wednesday evening, although if demand were to ramp up we have the potential to run at least another one. The Classes are as follows:

Beginners - 19:00hrs - 19:40hrs

Improvers - 19:40hrs - 20:20hrs

Intermediate - 20:20hrs - 21:00hrs

We don't run specific courses (10, 12 or 14 weeks for example), we promote on merit, with class standards in place so that we can measure how each partnership is progressing. We also try to limit the class membership to no more than 10 Handlers & their Dogs at any one time.

Training methods are based around praise and reward, although we do reserve the right to chastise a dog, but only if the situation merits it.

The Society is Kennel Club listed so is able to promote and run the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme. This is a nationally recognised award which starts off with the "Puppy Foundation" award, for dogs up to 18 months of age and then follows on with "Bronze, Silver and Gold" levels of award.

Please note that on your first night, we would like you to come a little later (19:15hrs) complete with your Dog and their vaccination certificate. This first night will allow you to meet us and of course, us to meet you, but most importantly it allows your dog to become familiar with the venue, as it can be very daunting for a dog to be brought into this type of environment and then be expected to work straight away. We like to build on their confidence so that every Wednesday evening becomes the high point of their week! It also affords us the opportunity to go through the very few rules we have, the methods we use and to answer any questions that you may have.

Should you wish to enquire about membership, please contact us using the details given on the contact page of this website.

Current cost of membership is as follows:

Annual Membership fee (renewable in August) £15:00

+ weekly class fees of just £3:00 per dog.

Some examples of the Society's activities can be seen on the "Gallery" pages

Above everything, we believe that training should be fun for both handler and dog, this has always been Doug's philosophy throughout his entire dog training career. He has embedded this in the Church Eaton & District Dog

Training Society's ethos. After all if something is fun to do, both you and your dog will want to repeat it!
